Dear Alumni Ambassadors,
Welcome to the first edition of The Alliance. Alliance is defined as a close
association of groups formed to advance common interests. Look forward to
sharing information, increasing each other’s visibility, and strengthening
our alumni network and inter-organization relationships. Your
feedback on
The Alliance or the Alumni Ambassadors Program is always welcome. Our new

What’s
Happening with You
News from HUP. Ella Meloni and Carol Licaretz report that The
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) continues its efforts to
achieve Magnet Status. HUP also has many programs of interest, among them:
- Nurse Extern Program. The Nurse
Extern Program interview process starts in late winter, with hiring dates
in May and June. This program provides clinical experiences and
educational opportunities over a defined period enhancing fundamental
skills for the student. Completion of a basic medical-surgical clinical
experience is required. Call Beverly Emonds at 215.662.2607.
- Gateway to Practice. The Gateway
to Practice Clinical Residency Program offers a specialty focus in
Medical-Surgical Nursing, Critical Care, Emergency Room, Perioperative,
and Obstetrical/Neonatal Nursing. This program is intended for GNs or RNs
in their first position, supporting their career development and goals.
Contact Call Beverly Emonds at 215.662.2607 for further information.
- Patient safety initiatives. To
ensure medication safety, the Nursing Practice Committee facilitated
re-education of all nursing staff on IV pump utilization and supported the
use of standardized intravenous medication infusions. This will be
reinforced in conjunction with the Pharmacy Department at the Medication
Safety Fair on March 14th (7a.m.-7 p.m.), 15th (7 a.m.-5 p.m.), and 17th
(7 a.m.-7 p.m.) in the Founders 3 Plaza conference rooms.
