Dear Alumni Ambassadors,

The new year has started with a bang. Plans for our new building continue to move along, our students are planning their international health promotion experiences over spring break, and we are excited to promote our new BSN/MSN Gateway Program for Registered Nurses.

This new program values the experience of an RN and offers credit for it--a BSN student may only need to take 24 credits at Villanova. Plus there is a customized curriculum, many online courses, flexible scheduling and a 30% tuition reduction for those who are practicing RNs.  There is also an easy transition from the BSN into the MSN program.

Please share this information with RNs who are looking to move forward with their education. Interested colleagues can find out more by visiting our Open House on Tuesday, March 14 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., attending a free 6:00 p.m. seminar on advanced education for RNs, or contacting Dr. Joyce Willens at 610.519.6832.

While invitations will be arriving in the mail in the coming weeks, I am happy to share with you the names of the alumni who will be receiving the 2006 College of Nursing Medallions. These outstanding nurses were selected from a highly qualified group of nominees. They are: Rosalinda Alfaro-LeFevre, B.S.N. ’75, M.S.N. ’85;  Christine M. Bruzek-Kohler, B.S.N. ‘74;  Veronica Hill-Milbourne, B.S.N. ‘84; and Raymond W. Kleposki, M.S.N. ‘00.

We hope you will attend this important event in support of your fellow nursing alumni and encourage other Villanova Nurses to do the same.

Simulation technology grows at the College of Nursing. The College of Nursing announces two new arrivals—SimBaby and VitalSim Nursing Kid for enhanced simulation experiences for its undergraduate and graduate nurse practitioner students.

Heifer International Initiatives.  Our final health and Human Values Lecture for this academic year is Heifer International Initiatives presented by Mr. Umaru Sule. The lecture will be held Wednesday, March 15th at 7:30 p.m. in Bartley Hall, Room 1011.

Since 1987, Umaru Sule has been with Heifer International, an organization with a unique approach to ending world hunger and poverty. Heifer has provided food, income-producing animals and training to millions of resource-poor families in 115 countries for over 60 years. Heifer's grassroots approach allows people and communities to make their own decisions about how to improve their lives. As partners work together to overcome obstacles, they strengthen their communities and foster democracy.

This lecture is free and open to the community.

Congratulations

Dr. Joyce S. Willens. Dr. Joyce S. Willens has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Society for Pain Management Nursing (ASPMN) for a two-year term.
