Dear Alumni Ambassadors,

Villanova University College of Nursing proudly announces its designation as a Center of Excellence by the National League for Nursing (NLN). The College voluntarily sought and was granted the designation, along with two other schools in its category “Creating environments that enhance student learning and professional development.” Center of Excellence is a three-year recognition. Connelly Endowed Dean and Professor M. Louise Fitzpatrick, Ed.D., R.N., FAAN, received the honor on behalf of the College at the NLN Education Summit in Orlando on October 1, 2004.

What's New at VU

Annual Distinguished Lecture. Please encourage your fellow alumni, colleagues and anyone else who has an interest in end-of-life issues to attend the 27th Annual Distinguished Lecture in Nursing to be held Tuesday, November 9, 2004, at 7:30 p.m. in the Villanova Room of  Connelly Center, following a 6:00 p.m. alumni reception. “Waltzing the Reaper” is a one-woman play performed by actress Judith Gantly-- a  powerfully moving and humorous look at the patient and caregiver journey through the dying process and the last opportunities to mend relationships.
 

What's Happening with You

Looking to advance your education? If you or your colleagues are looking to advance your education with a master's or doctoral degree in nursing, join us for the Graduate Program Open House held on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Connelly Center's Villanova Room. Faculty and students are on hand to answer your questions, campus tours are available and at 5:00 p.m. there is a session on graduate nursing education.  We look forward to meeting nurses from your institution!

Featured Program

Adult Nurse Practitioner. The Adult Nurse Practitioner Program prepares primary care adult nurse practitioners to perform acts of medical diagnosis or prescription of medical, therapeutic or corrective measures for adult clients in primary care settings working in collaboration with physicians and certified nurse practitioners. 

Congratulations

Katie Fallon, BSN '01 heads for Sudan. Recent Villanova Nursing graduate, Katie Fallon, was awarded a Durant Fellowship for Refugee Medicine and is headed for a 9-month stay in the Sudan. She is a nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Katie will be working with the humanitarian group Concern Worldwide in the Darfur region, described by the U.N. as "the world's worst humanitarian crisis," in which more than one million people have been forced to flee their homes.
